Can God Resurrect a Broken Marriage?

An update from Christian Family Life:

This past Sunday, we celebrated Easter—the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As I reflected on Jesus’ resurrection, I began to think about the number of broken marriages around the world and I thought, “The same power that raised Jesus from the dead can also raise a dead marriage to new life.”

Over and over again God’s written Word reminds us of the grandeur of the God we serve and the power made available to us through his Holy Spirit, by faith.

This got me thinking about my friends, Charles and Buffy Wimmer. They have been married for 42 years and since I’ve known them, they have been a rock-solid couple. So I was astonished to learn recently that early in their marriage, Charles had an affair. After learning of the affair, Buffy could have considered her marriage “dead” and chosen to divorce Charles. But instead, by the power of the Holy Spirit, she forgave him and trusted God with her marriage. They shared their story with their church a few years ago and gave us permission to share it with you.

“Rise and go, your faith has made you whole.”

Many of us read of God’s power to save and make us whole, but walk around in shame or with feelings of woundedness, betrayal, bitterness, and unwillingness to offer to others what God has so graciously offered to us. Our faith drenches us in God’s grace, mercy, love, and forgiveness. The result of our reconciliation to our Creator gives us the ability to offer to others what they don’t deserve—our love and forgiveness.

Do you believe in the power that raised Jesus from the grave to never die again? Then we can certainly believe God has the ability to restore any relationship. We can also believe that God can continue to strengthen the bond that exists in healthy marriage relationships.

The tomb is empty, but your relationship shouldn’t be. Praying that you would know God’s resurrection power today.
